Clearing up the confusion (Political)

Damn, the recent articles list on The Grapevine isn't half as full now I've blown on the dust off this newspaper.

Today's topic is one that's been going around E-uk for about a month now and it's big, so sit down, fill the flask with tea (or probably something stronger if you want get through this) because this is a big debate and I have to vent some steam as I haven't written a proper rant in months. This isn't an attack on any players of this game, I'm simply writing this in order for all people to clear up any confusion there may have been.

Well first off: The"Problem"

This is a view about the current political system being used by the people in this side of the game. There is a belief that there is a group at the top of politics within this game which has a sort of tyrannical hold over the people and is closed off to all newcomers. Before i get around to debunking this myth I'd like to explain how and why this idea has risen in the past few weeks.

About a month ago, we had the "pleasure" of meeting Harold Proctor . This person came into the E-sim world and quickly took a shine to politics. At first this seemed like a good move for everybody, a new person within politics is always good, considering the natural cycle of the game, for example as we lose players like Rio1221 from congress we need new players to fill in the space they leave. Fairly soon after he joined though, I noticed some problems (probably noticed by a few other people too.) Here's a little chart to give you an idea of what happened.

1: He took control of a small 1 man party - Plenty do that, nothing to worry about yet

2: He started spamming the link to his party - Not too bad, everyone does it when they first take a party

3: The spamming continues getting his party into the top 5 - Starting to get annoying, especially since it seemed to be drawing people

4: "Oh look, spam, what a surprise" -_- - The spam is at least bidaily which is especially annoying considering Harold had been in the game for just over a week and had little idea of how things actually worked

5: Myself and a few others make it known to him that not only is the spam annoying, but also that parties are not as important within the game as he believes - Harold begins to accuse us of being scared of his parties expansion

6: Harold begins talking about winning a majority of congress seats and possibly running for president in the next election - A fight ensues in which I point out that he's new to the game (2 weeks) at which point he accuses the current in-game politicians of being elitist and without the best interests of the people at heart (by not wanting a brand new, unproven player taking the most important job in the country..? I don't understand either).

7: Oh a package from Harold, I wonder what it cou...

- More attacks against me and my fellows from the super secret order of "Elitists" in which he claims we are taking roles for our own personal gain (5G's redonated to the treasury every congress election and nothing else) and also how is going to install a new version of direct democracy in which everyone will be able to vote, which goes to show he little he knew about the mechanics of the game.

8: Gets banned for copious amounts of multies - The main threat to this country is removed.

Now i know that explaining this may seem like a waste of time but it will come back to be necessary, now and later.
The problem which I personal had was not with his inexperience, that would be silly, we were all brand new at some point, in fact i actively encouraged him to continue with politics in the game, just more slowly.
No, the problem as I saw it was that Harold was expecting things to come to him extremely fast. Not only did he use multis which would almost definitely be used to gain him presidency in his first term of running, but he expected to receive such a big and important role in looking after this country so soon after joining; Not only did he not have any previous long term political experience in congress (Which I will admit is not 100% necessary if you are still aware of what needs to be done) but he had not even been in the game long enough to even try and run for congress.

The Mandatory Anecdote

I joined this server on the first day and decided to stick around, with the top political spots being taken up by the old guard who had come over from the Primera server which had been running for long before this one. I was new and inexperienced at this game so i took to the sidelines for a bit, I tried my hand at the military side of the game, making an MU and fighting, before i tried the economical side (NEVER AGAIN) until after about 200 days i felt as if i'd had enough experience to try out for congress, I ran, still not being one of the older players but got through with a fairly decent amount of votes, ever since I've been running and succeeding.

This goes towards the long lost light hidden deep in the jungle of words which make this article, that light being The Point Of All This

My beginning point about Harold proctor trying to gain power fast and the story of how i got to where I am all come down to this point. The Group of politicians in this game is not a closed group, it is open to anyone who is willing to spend time building up, just as I did, just as pretty much everyone involved in politics in this game did. Running for congress is a good way of doing this, Party leaders do not block people from running in their parties unless of a suspected PTO, other than that the game is the only thing which may block you running. Once you're in congress just do what you think is right, vote on laws, spend that time getting to know more people in and out of congress and eventually you'll have been in congress for a long time with all the experience you need, no-one will block you from start to finish of this process.

The only thing in which someone will face real scrutiny from other players is when they attempt to gain the seat of president. The reason we don't like the idea of anyone but the best taking the position is because it is the most important role in all of our politics, it takes time, dedication, trustworthiness and intelligence which is why I'm not a fan of risking it to someone when we don't know if they can provide these qualities. When someone tries to run for president, we like there to be an overall consensus amongst all players, both experienced and still new that that person is the best for the job to make their job easier, and we prefer it when newer more unheard of players who want to gain power spend time working their way up, it's not anything sinister, we simply want to make sure that the most important role in the country is taken by the best possible candidate for the job and that . The further the jump you want to make, the higher you must climb the ladder first.

This is one of the reasons why I've never taken on an important cabinet role or attempted to run for Presidency, it takes a ridiculous amount of time and effort, so much so in fact that i am able to ramble on in this article for as long as i have done and still have more time left over than I would have if I was running (part of) the country.

That thing which you all prayed to anything who would listen would come soon, The Final

To summarise all my above points in a Tl;dr fashion, power is not closed off from anyone in this game! If anything, newer players are encouraged to join the political side of this game all the time, just at a slower pace than "Day 1 - Join game, Day 2 - Become President"
There is no closed group at the top of politics, if it the political side of this game were closed then half the people involved would not be there, including myself and both of the current presidential candidates. Remember that the player who began this theory of a top-tier Elitist group existing within politics was a player infamous for not wanting to put any effort in. He began this idea of an Elitist group at the top of politics when experienced players told him to slow down, and he was close to gaining a large number of congress seats and presidency in his first attempt by using many multis. He opposed the current system because he wanted quick and easy power for himself (unfairly) The system in place now is there to make sure the country has the best possible leader to look after it, which is why he tried to get rid of it.

Just realised that wasn't really a shortened version...

This is political, but it is also a game, and in every competitive game there is the players with the most experience are the ones who take on the bigger tasks, you wouldn't call Nooberella or Lord Pathogen Military Elitists just because they have some of the best equipment in the game, they worked hard and put in effort to get up to that level, just like the politicians of this game have too.

Anyway, I hope that's cleared up confusion. Again, this article (or novel) isn't directed at anybody in particular it was just an attempt at clearing up the confusion there has been between about the "Elitists" and for anybody with intentions similar to Harold Proctor

Also, Good luck to both caneil569 and joshyboymc In the Presidential elections, I have a favourite but I don't think either one would be a disastrous choice.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
