Congress Elections - December 2012 (Old article)

Hello boys and girls, its that magical time of the year...congress elections.

Congress elections are on the 25th of December, which also happens to fall on Christmas for a lot of people out there.

That in mind, as party leader of the essential South Korean congress line-up, I get the job of working out which candidates are right for the country.

I'll be looking at the list, checking it twice, and finding out which nominees are naughty and nice.

Everyone is welcome to candidate, but know that we only have 20 seats, so we typically choose those 20 for auto-win. Then citizens go on to play a game of popularity and vote for their favorite candidate of the winners.

Here's some basic guidelines to give you an idea on what makes great congress members (in no special order):

1) Activity - People who are active and participate in South Korea get noticed and deserve to be rewarded.

2) Dedication - You may not be the most active, but if every action you make shows us just how important Korea is to you, then you're welcome to candidate.

3) Good behavior - Being an overall decent human being is very important to getting along with your fellow South Koreans.

4) Vouched - People are willing to vouch for you. You may not be in the best military unit with a ton of medals and on IRC 24/7, but your name is known for being a great team player.

5) IRC - Being on IRC is important in case of quick proposals and special decisions. Its not mandatory, but those who we see frequently in the channel that participate, have a real advantage.

6) Responsibility - People who are notorious for being responsible, reliable, and mature typically have bonus points towards being chosen. No one wants rage-quitters in the government.

As I said before, everyone is welcome to apply for congress, and will be judged fairly. Naturally I have one of the best elves around to lend me a hand in the process.

Before I wrap this up, I do want to stress some important aspects about how I do this:

1) If you're an @sshole, don't bother. I don't even want to deal with the complaining you'll do after I remove you.

2) If you're a threat to the government in some way: bad proposals, unstable, multying, unapproved citizenships. Seriously, don't waste our time.

3) If you're lazy: work history is terrible, you never fight for Korea unless we have to nag you a lot, or logging in itself is too difficult...don't bother applying.

4) If you only want in to congress for the 5 gold, you're going to get removed. I'll even brag about it.

5) Everyone sits out their first Congress election. I don't care if you joined the day of the last election - you're not eligible. This counts for new citizens and those who were granted citizenship.

That being said, let me be honest with all of you. I'm not here to screw anyone over, I'm just here to help make sure our government works right. I take notes, and your fellow citizens do too. We notice who is reliable and who needs to be deported badly.

Everyone has a chance, but not everyone will be chosen - its nothing personal. Decisions have to be made, and that's why I sit out of congress, so I can help do this job. You may not be online 24/7, but if you're there when it counts, that's great. You may have made mistakes, but if you're responsible and own up to it, that shows you're a solid human being.

Of course, you're always welcome to contact me in-game by mail, ask your questions here, or contact me on IRC. I'm available.

You can candidate soon, last day is the 23rd.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
