Clutch Update - Day 206 to 219 (Old article)

Welcome to the eighth installment of my series on being Clutch.

Damage is up 40.9% this period, thanks mainly to an Easter event that encouraged excessive damage and looser spending.


Clutch Military Units March 19th thru April 1st

Total Damage: 23.0 billion (+40.9%)


Aras slipped from their normal top slot and high-30's clutch percentage down to 9th place with 25%. Still a respectable position, but it snaps a long domination streak that apparently reverberated throughout all Lithuanian units. This allowed unusual diversity in the top 10 with no country holding more than 1 slot: South Korea, Israel, Greece, Brazil, Malaysia, Slovenia, Canada, Pakistan, Lithuania and Poland

Maybe one day a country that is not a) affiliated with VVV or b) full of clown avatars will crack the top 10. One can dream, OwenHargreaves . One can dream.


Clutch Citizens



Maybe not so surpisingly, our top gold spender is also our top clutch citizen. Not to detract from Rec , though. Big spenders can waste their damage as easily as us hoi polloi.

Now, looking at this list, I am sure you all are thinking the exact same thing I was thinking when I first saw it:

Why are people from countries that end with the letter 'a' kicking so much ass?


Starting at the top, I don't hit a non-'a'-ending country until #14 Yensid who is a well-known USA expatriate. So, really the trend isn't broken until #15 by Levy Fidelix (abs).

I was so amazed by this phenomenon that I quickly flipped back to the MU list to look for similar patterns. The best I could find was 6 of the top 10 MU's end with the letter 's', and apparently you get a bonus if that 's' is capitalized. I bet Why So SeriOuS is SeriOuSly regretting changing their name to Adrenaline Junkies right about now.

Moving on, my newly-christened Ggarbi award for least clutch player goes to ggarbi . He took a break last period to clutch 2 rounds for Iran. This time he is back to normal form with 0 clutches out of 110 rounds.

Same place... a lot of the same people ( Pasek1234 , Jazeon , muchael )... wildly different results.

Obviously, the bad round occurred over a Day Change, while the good round was around 11 AM server time. The bad round was also on April 1, a day when everybody was dumping absurd amounts in hopes of equipment drops with +15% stat bonuses. However, this was a battle that would not qualify, as it would end the following day.

EDIT:

In comments, Kolibris mentioned ranking Military Units based on Percent of Clutch Damage over Total Damage. It is a concept I considered for citizens and discarded once I looked at the results. I will go ahead and show it for MU's here:

So, Formosa Colonial Army would be ranked #1 based on this method. I guess I could live with that.

However, Squadron of Light exemplifies a possible issue with a lack discipline. I treat MU's differently than Citizens, because anyone can control where and when they hit. But what about loose Military Units where some people dump at DC, while others play at odd times of the night?

Here Squadron of Light dealt a respectable 25% of their total damage toward winning rounds, but they are failing to clutch (either they lost or helped build a wall) 90% of their rounds. I would argue that if they tightened up their round participation, they would help win more rounds, and place higher on the other list.

The flip side is that an MU can deal 20 million damage to win a round 25 million to 6 million and still get credit as being clutch. In this new table, that MU would only get credit for 1 million damage and their percentage would be weighted down by this 5% round.

I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. I guess I could include both...

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.


In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.


You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).


At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
